Herm Sprenger prong collars are of standard sizes. But you can remove or add links to make a perfect fit of each collar. The pinch collar that fits ideally guarantees maximum results with the lowest risks of injuries.
Each link will add 1 1/5 inches (3 cm) to the total collar length. If you need additional links for this Herm Sprenger prong collar, you can choose the number of links needed and order them in the attributes at the top of the product page or visit the page with extra links (click the image title to go to the page).
Are you not sure how many links you need? Click the red button at the bottom right to get to HOW MANY EXTRA LINKS TO ADD? Follow the instructions to define the number of extra links to order.
- Choose the link you need to remove.
- Move the link toward the prongs' end.
- Press the prongs together to allow the looped end to slip off.
- Add and remove prongs to get the correct collar size.
Verify that you choose the proper millimeter size of an extra prong link when ordering. Ensure that the metal alloy of the link is the same as the metal alloy of the collar you have. This will keep constant breaking strength of the entire collar, ensure proper training and collar durability.
Remember that the same number of prongs should be attached on both sides of the center plate when you add and remove links. If it is needed an odd number of prongs to fit the collar, then ensure it is only one more prong on the one side of the center plate than the other side. Your purpose is to make sure that the center plate is at the front of the dog's neck above the trachea.
If you do not like the look of a pinch collar, a nylon cover will help you to turn a prong collar into a regular nylon collar. This is not all. The nylon cover also:
- reduces contact with water and prevents early rusting;
- protects against excessive light reflection that may hurt eyes;
- makes less noise;
- hides prongs and helps to avoid unwanted public attention.
If you purchase this prong collar with the nylon cover right here, you will get it of the same size along with the collar. There is no need to take the dimensions of the collar and to fit the cover by you.
If you ordered a prong collar and removed some links, you can adjust the nylon cover this way:
- Measure the prong collar length.
- Measure the nylon cover.
- Cut extra length of the cover and burnish the edges with the lighter.
If your dog has grown up and extra links are needed, you can order a new customized nylon cover that will fit your prong collar:
- Determine the collar size in the dropdown box at the page top.
- Choose how many links you have added to the standard size of the collar.
